MEET THE TEAM

The real driving force behind our success is our workforce. Our pedigree has been handed down from generation to generation, achieving continued qualities and values that only a 'family firm' is truly capable of.

The calibre and expertise of our people brings proven know-how to every project we tackle. Today, we only employ the skills of highly talented craftsmen whose capabilities operate across a broad spectrum of tasks. From skilled bricklayers and drainage specialists to architects and project managers, the calibre and expertise of our people brings proven know-how to every project.

Graham Jackson

Graham Jackson - Managing Director
As managing director and co-founder of the company, I have the benefit of over 40 years experience in construction. I have worked with Colin for over 40 years and with the help of my co-directors, we have driven the company forward from a modest turnover in 1991 to a multi million turnover in the current year. This growth has been achieved with cautious management. We have never borrowed from any bank or financial institution and our dividend policy has ensured that company reserves are more than adequate for our needs.

My prime role is to generate business for the company. Firstly, to keep our vast workforce in secure employment and to pay good salaries and bonuses to our staff and directors. Secondly, to produce a profit for possible dividends and to finance further expansion. In this highly competitive world of construction tendering, I will often accept a contract price giving us minimal profit but with the knowledge that we can make a profit with efficient site management and prices re-negotiated with our many suppliers and subcontractors.

In this way, we have established an excellent reputation for delivering quality and value for money for both the public and private sectors.

Colin Jackson

Colin Jackson - Director
A co-founder of the company with over 40 years experience of construction, I am responsible for our 'small works' department running contracts ranging in value from £10,000 to £250,000.

Our philosophy of starting on time, doing quality work to the client's specifications, and finishing on time applies equally to a £10,000 project as it does to a £1 million project. With this type of work in the private sector, it is important to communicate with the individual client to assess their needs and produce the goods for them. This will inevitably lead to repeat business and recommendations to other clients. This work can be a significant and very profitable part of the company's business.

I am also responsible for the purchase and maintenance of all company plant and vehicles. I ensure that each site has the necessary resources of both purchased and hired plant and that these costs are quantified and reported to the financial director to be included accurately in the company costings.

Kieren McDonnell

Kieren McDonnell - Operations Director
With over twenty five years experience in the construction industry, I have gained all the skills necessary to oversee every operation from tender to delivery ensuring that our corporate goals of quality and value for money are achieved on site and our reputation goes from strength to strength.

This success has been achieved by hard work throughout the company and I'm greatly involved with the investment in our teams, communicating our company philosophy at all levels and rewarding staff for their quality of work and loyalty.

Planning each contract and adapting to changing circumstances are essential elemants within my role that have been key to the development and growth of our services.

With the additional capability of troubleshooting and ensuring financial stability and budget targets, I have been able to establish excellent relationships and become a valued advisor to our clients.

Working from our grass root up, I have developed many working teams who trust and understand the decisions I make.

The communications of our core objectives and strategies are provided on a daily basis and within the close network of our skilled workforce, I encourage open views and ideas that are often included in the initiatives taken to improve our services.

Helen Senior

Helen Senior - Financial Director
I have been with the company for 16 years and developed new accounting and costing systems to cope with each stage of the company's development. We now use a fully integrated costing and accounts package to give us the reports required to monitor each individual contract on a daily basis and to give us the overall financial results on a monthly basis.
I could write a book on managing the finances of a multi million pound turnover company with no bank overdraft which obviously requires excellent credit control, negotiated payment terms with clients and very good relationships with suppliers and subcontractors.

I restrict my support team of accounts and administration staff to a minimum to reduce overheads and we rely on hard work, efficiency and communication to get all reports out by the set deadlines required for my co-directors to maintain their controls on each contract and to ensure that we are achieving our overall financial targets.
Monitoring of all costs and setting accurate overhead recovery rates are vital to ensure that we are aware of all implications of prices agreed by both competitive tender and negotiation.

Sarah Groom
Sarah Groom - Tender Manager
As Tender manager my role is to ensure the tender process runs as smoothly as possible. It is my responsibility to respond to any OJEU notices and pre-qualification questionnaires relevant to the Company. This involves taking ownership of the questionnaire in the bid process for new projects.

The Tender Manager is responsible for the submission of the pre-qualification questionnaires, tenders and presentations. This process is run under a tight schedule so as not to miss any opportunities that arise for the Company.

Once a tender is received it is logged onto our specialist system and a copy is made which is distributed to the relevant Quantity Surveyor to price.

Subcontractors are contacted for specialist works to be priced and all quotations are logged and copied to the QS for their information.

The overall management of the bid/submission delivery from PQQ to tender relies completely on the Tender Manager including organisation and meeting deadlines.

Documents, in particular for a pre-qualification questionnaire, must be compiled to a high standard both hard copy and electronically. Failure to do so may run the risk of losing the project.

Pre-tender submission review meetings and resource planning meetings ensure that all parties involved in the tender submission are all aware of what is happening and any questions can be answered before any submissions are made.

Mike Castree
Mike Castree - Contracts Manager
During the last 21 years I have gained considerable experience of managing, planning, co-ordinating and monitoring various types of building projects to ensure budgets, programming and quality standards are met.

My current position entails managing various projects from block refurbishment schemes to school new build, extensions and refurbishments, up to a value of £2m.

I have developed excellent working relationships when organising building projects, ranging from site operatives to clients, whether they be private architects, local authorities, health authorities etc.

I have experience, as both an employer and employee at management level and this allows me to appreciate delicate situations that can arise and am able to influence and negotiate to arrive at a solution for all parties involved.

I have been involved in the estimating/costing process during tendering for contracts and during project management, and therefore am aware of how a project needs to be constantly monitored in order to ensure that budgets are adhered to.

Whenever situations arise which require a resolution I take a lead in ensuring the correct solution is found.  My range of experience during my career has given me the skills to plan and organise effectively, to communicate well, both verbally and in writing at all levels and develop good networking and collaboration skills.

I have good analytical skills and have the ability to use information and data gathered to make informed decisions to enable projects to be cost effective.

My ability to work under pressure and with minimum supervision has always been a necessity, particularly when running my own company, when workloads were often extremely high.  I have always striven to give clients best value in order to promote my company's reputation and believe a sound knowledge of the building industry is reflected in my confidence of my own ability.

I have always valued the knowledge and opinions of others and believe the best way to move a project forward is to develop a strong team and be mindful of their contribution, however large or small.

I try to balance my working life with other interests, the main one being my love of rugby union.  I am the manager and assistant coach of my son's rugby team and a season ticket holder at Sale Sharks.
